LEARN THE RULES OF R AND RR

The letter R when you write simply has a soft sound, as in the words:: cara, pera or mira. When you write double, RR, has a strong sound as in words: barro, cerro or perro.
The difficulty of this letter is that sometimes you write simple, R, but has a strong sound as we shall see for below.

WORDS WRITTEN WITH R

RULE Nº.1
At the end of a word. In these cases it sounds smooth.
EXAMPLES: Sentir, saber, intuir o confiar..

RULE Nº. 2
In the middle of word it sounds smooth.
EXAMPLES: Mirada, barba, sarten, calendario o marco.

RULE Nº. 3
After the consonants B, C, D, F, G, P and T it sounds smooth.
EXAMPLES: Brillo, criado, dromedario, frágil, grillo, prueba o tronco.

RULE Nº. 4
At the beginning of a word. In these cases sounds strong.
EXAMPLES: Rama, remedio, ritual, rodamiento o rumiante.

RULE Nº. 5
After the consonants L, N and S , it sounds strong.
EXAMPLES: Alrededor, honradez, israelita o alrota.

RULE Nº. 6
After the prefix sub , it also has a strong sound.
EXAMPLES: Subrayado o subrogación,.

WORDS WRITTEN WITH RR

RULE Nº.1
RR is written in the loud sounds going between vowels.
EXAMPLES: Arroyo, arriba, barreño, carrera, desarrollo o parrilla.

RULE Nº.2
The prefix negacin IN becomes IR before R.
EXAMPLES: Irreal (unreal) o irrealizable (unrealizable).

RULE Nº.3
In compound words whose first element ends in a vowel and the second begins with R.
EXAMPLES: Pelirrojo o pararrayos.
EXCEPTIONS: When the two terms of the compound word are separated by a script as in greco-romano.
